Attaching Clasps with Fold-over Cord Ends

Attach a Clasp to a Bracelet or Necklace Using Fold-over Cord Ends

When you want to attach a clasp to leather or crimpable chain, one of the easiest and quickest ways is to use fold-over cord ends. You need to make sure you are using the correct size fold-over cord end for the thickness of the leather or chain that you are using in your project.

Step 1:

Place one end of the cord into the fold-over cord end, so that the end butts up to the loop at the top of the cord end.

Step 2:

With the tip of the chain nose pliers, carefully bend over one side of the cord end, trapping the cord underneath it.

Step 3:

Repeat step 2 with the other side of the cord end, so that both sides lay as flat as possible on top of the cord. Squeeze the cord end with chain nose pliers all down the length to ensure it is held tightly in place.

Step 4:

If you are attaching the cord end to crimpable chain, a much smaller fold-over cord end should be used. Here we've also shown how a jump ring has been added which will be used to attach the clasp.
